Match Day 2010 [Report]

Thursday was Match Day, the annual rite of passage when medical school graduates at the nation’s 130 medical schools are assigned to a hospital for their post-graduate training. The students request the type of specialty they want to practice as well as their top preferences for where they’d like to train.

Summary: Family Care is on the rise…up 9% from last year. Internal Medicine rose only 3% despite increasing demand for internists. Out of the 5,000 offered IM positions, only 2,700 were filled by this year’s match class. The big boys, anesthesiology and radiology matched way over 90% of their positions.

Shelf Week Fall 2009

A “SHELF” EXAM =

- standardized test

- NBME-administered subject examination

- Given to us medical students at the completion of a course to a assess our understanding of the subject matter

- Makes you realize you actually know nothing

- Pushes you to the edge of insanity

- Makes you contemplate what life would be like if you had to repeat a course

So in light of this “shelf week” where I have 3 shelf exams in 5 days…I have turned to Katt Williams to bring me out of depression. Unlike him I can’t indulge in some of this miracle “f&*$ it” drug. Enjoy.
