On March 1st, people in India and other countries with large Hindu populations celebrated Holi, the Festival of Colors. A welcoming of Spring, Holi is celebrated as the triumph of good over evil. Hindu devotees and others enthusiastically drop their inhibitions, and chase each other in temples and through the streets, playfully splashing colorful paint, powder and water on each other. People also attend bonfires to commemorate the story of Prahlada, a Hindu figure and devout follower of Lord Vishnu who prevailed over his father and the demoness Holika with the power of his devotion. Collected here are a handful of images from this year’s Festival of Colors (34 images to be exact)

Great post. All the images are really vibrant and truly show how colorful the festival is.
This post reminded me of a song celebrating Holi from the Hindi movie “Mohabbatein”
I agree…I LUUUUVVVVVV IITTT!!! IT’S GREAT!!!
Holi = SPECTACULAR!
And the gallery is eye-catchingly moving and emotionally beautiful.
Holi is simply amazing. Yea…it is religious, but it also has such manifested cultural aspect to it that it joins masses of people in a grandeur manner that the energy/spirit is contagious and spreads rapidly.
It is great to see that such a tradition is so ingrained in people of all walks of the world that they come together so passionately to share the celebration and focusing on the good around them, especially, since their so much suffering/violence/corruption occurring around them.
It is just refreshing and enlightening…a proof that hope is always visible there to grasp and commemorate the GOODNESS that exists.
It’s interesting, because this reminded me of two songs also, one of which is mentioned by Stiletto and the other is from the movie ‘Sholay’ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCXUC9PmNnQ
